Edgewood Excited to Announce First Building Near Completion and Set to Open September 1st

After many lengthy and unforeseen challenges were created throughout the pandemic, including labor shortages and supply chain delays, the new fifty-plus community is expected to open its doors this fall.  Edgewood is excited to open building one (fully rented) on September 1st.  Work on building two has begun but it is not slated for occupancy until late 2024.

Since the start of this project, the original vision for the Edgewood Community has remained intact with only a few subtle changes.  The original designs had initially included two-story units (3bed, 3bath) but due to lack of demand for the loft-style apartment it was determined to only include single-story units in the final designs.  Lastly, electric will no longer be included in the lease due to the potential for electric car charging.

After Overcoming Delays on Multiple Fronts,

Edgewood Construction Set to Begin

It has been a challenging year for most, and the pandemic has affected almost every industry.   This includes developments and new construction projects. A decrease in the production of building supplies that was created from layoffs over the last year has lead to an increase in costs that has created an unexpected halt for many new developments. While these risks are evident, the Edgewood development is moving forward as planned.  The property is currently being cleared in preparation for the underground infrastructure to begin soon.  Although there has not been a tentative completion date set, the next few months should give clarity to when possible move in dates can be established.

Edgewood Project Approved

On September 29th, 2020 a new community development was approved by the town planning board in Cortland, NY.  The community, to be titled Edgewood, will focus on those 55 and over who are ready to downsize and become free from home upkeep and unexpected costs.  Jim Reeners, a local builder and developer, will be heading the family owned project to be started in the spring of 2021.  Mr. Reeners has been seeking to create such a community for over a decade, but the right location hasn't presented itself until now.  Based on research and talking with local members of the community he believes the demand for such a venture is only growing and that it will be a positive addition to Central New York.
